Murray State Men’s Basketball Head Coach Billy Kennedy announced the signing of 6-1 guard Jewuan Long of Liberty Tech High School in Jackson, Tenn.

Long helped lead Liberty Tech to the Tennessee Class 2A State Championship last season and was named state tournament MVP.  He was also named to the Tennessee Class 2A All-State Team.

Kennedy is excited to sign a point guard with Long’s talent.

“We recruited Jewuan to come in and play the point guard position,” Kennedy said. “His toughness and ability to make his team better will be a great asset to our team here at Murray State.”

Long scored 12 points per game and hauled in five rebounds per game last season.  He averaged four assists per game for a Liberty Tech team that finished the season 34-3 for head coach Dexter Williams.

“He has started every game here since he was a freshman,” Williams said. “His improvement has been dramatic every year.”

“The boy is a winner, that’s all he knows,” Williams added. “He’s a slashing type player, he can attack the basket, and is a very good defender. We always have him guard the opponent’s best player.”

The fact that Long comes from a high school program with a tradition of winning made Long a very attractive recruit.

“He comes from a championship program,” Kennedy added. “He is well prepared to step in and play right away.”

Long joins Matt Fraliex of Caldwell County High School in Princeton, Ky. in the MSU class of 2007.

“I’m excited that both of these young men have already qualified and are outstanding people and students.” Kennedy said.
