Griffin was named the Racers' head coach Dec. 12.
The TSWA also named Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler as their College Football Player of the Year.
Griffin led the Skyhawks to a 6-5 mark, 4-4 in league play, in 2005, UT-Martin's first winning season since 1993.
UTM had not won an Ohio Valley Conference game in the six seasons prior to his arrival in December 2002. He was one of 16 finalists for The Sports Network's Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.
The six victories for the Skyhawks tied the 1993 team for the most in the program's history as an NCAA Division I-AA institution. UTM led the OVC in total defense (324.3 yards per game), and ranked second in scoring offense (27.0 points per game) and rushing offense (193.0 yards per game).
