Rowing Selects Montague As First Fulltime Assistant Coach

Murray State University's women's rowing program has added a fulltime assistant coach, head coach Bill McLean announced today. Robert Montague, who served as a graduate assistant coach for the Racer program during the 2006-07 season will serve as the program's first fulltime assistant.

As a graduate assistant last season, Montague coached the Murray State novice team and assisted with travel planning. He led the novice squad to third place medals at the Head of the Tennessee and the Midwest Collegiate Championships.

Montague joined the MSU program after serving three years as the head coach of the William and Mary Rowing Club where he helped lead the women's squad to a first place finish (varsity four) at the 2006 SIRA.

Prior to taking over the program at William and Mary, Montague served for three years as the head men's coach of the University of Connecticut Men's Crew Club. He began his coaching career in 1999 as the assistant coach at E.O. Smith High School.

He holds a US Rowing Level III Coach certification and is a certified personal trainer by the American Council on Exercise.

Montague has continued to row competitively. He captured first place in the men's intermediate 4x at the 2005 National Championships.

He earned a bachelor's of science degree from Connecticut in 2000. Montague will continue to pursue a graduate degree in exercise science at Murray State.
