Racer Golf Teams Rank High In OVC Preseason Polls

Racer Men
The MSU men's team, which finished second last season, have been picked as the team to beat along with co-first place selection Eastern Kentucky. The Racers received four first place votes while EKU had three and Austin Peay (the 2009 OVC champion) had two first place votes to earn third place in the poll.
Jacksonville State was fourth in the poll, with Tennessee Tech claiming fifth and Morehead State sixth place. Eastern Illinois, UT Martin and Tennessee State rounded out the preseason predictions.
The Racers are under the direction of Eddie Hunt who is in his ninth season as MSU head coach.
MSU has finished runner-up three times and third twice in the last eight seasons and will be looking for their first championship since 1991 when the OVC Championship is played April 26-28 in Dickson, Tenn., at Greystone GC.
MSU's first tournament of 2010 is the Jacksonville University Invitational to be held at the famous Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Fla. The event which is played at the same course where the PGA Tour Player's Championship is played happens Feb. 8-9.
Racer Women
The Murray State women's squad is the defending champion after winning their seventh title under head coach Velvet Milkman last spring.
The Racers were third in the preseason poll after getting two first place votes. Morehead State gained five first place votes to get the first spot in the poll, while Jacksonville State was second in the voting with one first place nod.
Eastern Kentucky was fourth in the preseason poll, with Tennessee Tech taking the fifth spot. Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois and Tennessee State round out the preseason rankings.
MSU will defend their 2009 title April 22-24 at the OVC Championship that will also be held at Greystone GC.
The Racers' first time out this spring is Mar. 1-2 at the MSU Spring Invitational at Miller Memorial GC.
