Women's basketball signee, Mary Jehlik (Mount Sterling, Ky./Montgomery County) has been busy since the end of her senior prep season. Jehlik was named to the prestigious Kentucky/Indiana All-Star Team and a McDonald's All-American nominee.
"We are excited about the versatility Mary brings to the table," said head coach Rob Cross. "With her length and shooting touch she has the ability to become a special player down the road as she gains strength. She runs the floor like a deer and jumps out of the gym."
As one of 12 members on the Kentucky/Indiana All-Star Team she will be playing in the all-star series June 11-12. The two states will first battle June 11 at Knight's Hall on the campus of Bellarmine University and then travel to Indianapolis to play at Conseco Fieldhouse, June 12.
"Mary has a great athletic ability," said Janie Robinson, head coach at Montgomery County. "You just don't normally get a 6-3 kid that moves as well has she does. I have been able to do some things on the court with her on the team that I wouldn't have been able to do without her. She is a joy to coach and loves to play basketball."
Jehlik is one of two recruits that signed to play for the Racers during the early signing period. She will be joined in the freshman class by Chanyere Hosey (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook). Hosey was part of the Bolingbrook team that finished the 2009-10 campaign ranked No. 8 in the nation by ESPN. She also helped the Raiders to claim their second-consecutive Illinois State High School Association Class 4A Championship.
"Chanyere is a big-time athlete and her aggressiveness on the court along with her length and skill are going to make her a great addition to our team," said Cross.
