Racers Rifle Competes In Pair of Matches At Ohio State

The Murray State Rifle squad turned in a good showing over the weekend in a three-way match with Kentucky and Ohio State and a shoulder-to-shoulder match with the Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio.
The Racers started Saturday with an aggregate score of 4603, second behind Kentucky's 4664 while OSU carded a 4597 for third place.
MSU came away with a head-to-head win Sunday over the Buckeyes 4621-4614.
"The reason we go on the road is to train dealing with distractions and the differences that road matches create,” Lollar said. “We have to able to go compete on the road.”
In Saturday's competition, the Racers were led by Bill Harvey with a 574, with Kyle Donnan scored a 572. Kaitlin Cleven posted a 583 for MSU in air rifle.
"Bill Harvey had a nice smallbore at 574, and we had others that were on the edge of doing some good things,” Lollar added.
In Sunday's match with Ohio State, the Racers got a 577 from Kelsey Emme in smallbore Cleven had a 575. In Air rifle, Emme and Ashley Rose carded a pair of 583's, while Caroline Barber and Donnan each added a 581.
"The win over Ohio State is good, because we competed,” Lollar said. “We fought for every point and I think that is a characteristic of a great team. We competed and found a way."
The Racers' next challenge is a trip to Army Saturday in West Point, N.Y., where Texas Christian will also be compete.
"We're looking forward to competing against Army and TCU this weekend,” Lollar said. “They're two of the highest ranked teams in the nation."
