Billy Kennedy Receives Contract Extension

Murray State University Director of Athletics Allen Ward announced the school has extended the contract of men's basketball head coach Billy Kennedy.
Kennedy's one-year extension takes him through the 2014-15 season with the Racers.
“I'm excited once again to know that we are keeping Coach Kennedy in Murray,” Ward said. “Coming off back-to-back OVC championships and a remarkable 54 wins the past two seasons, the future of Racers Basketball remains bright under his stable leadership.”
"I'm happy to have the opportunity to continue to build on the winning tradition at Murray State,” Kennedy said. “It means a lot to know that I have the support of our administration. My family and I have enjoyed our time in Murray the last five years and we're looking forward to the future.”
The 2010-11 season saw Kennedy lead the Racers to a second-straight Ohio Valley Conference regular-season championship (the 22nd in program history) and post-season appearance, when MSU played in the National Invitation Tournament. MSU's 23-9 campaign came on the heels of their 31-5 season in 2009-10, which included a win in the NCAA Tournament.
The Racers' two-straight titles also coincide with Kennedy being named OVC Coach of the Year. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes also honored Kennedy as its John Lotz “Barnabas” Award winner at the Final Four in Houston, Texas, April 2.
Under Kennedy's leadership, the Racers have turned in five-straight winning seasons which has pushed MSU's streak of consecutive winning seasons to 24. The streak is ranked fourth in the nation with Connecticut and behind only Syracuse (41), Kansas (28) and Arizona (27).
