8/31/2011 12:03:00 PM | Football
Murray State Athletics and NewWave Communications announced the broadcast schedule for the 2011 season of MSU Football on the Racer TV Network, with plans to air five games.
Add in the Racers' season opener at Louisville this week on ESPNU and MSU Football will enjoy six games on live television this season.
The first broadcast on the Racer TV Network happens when the Racers travel to Itta Bena, Miss., (Sep. 10) to face Mississippi Valley State. The Racers' game at Georgia State (Oct. 8) at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta is also on the broadcast schedule, as is MSU's homecoming game against Eastern Illinois (Oct. 15) at Roy Stewart Stadium. The games at Tennessee Tech (Nov. 5) in Cookeville, Tenn., and the regular season final at Southeast Missouri (Nov. 19) in Cape Girardeau, Mo., will also air live.
The games will be available to all 100,000-plus NewWave, Mediacom, Murray Electric and Comcast subscribers at no additional charge.
NewWave customers will see the broadcasts on channel 16 in all areas west of Kentucky Lake and in Hopkinsville and Madisonville. Mediacom is seen in Marshall, Calloway, Trigg, and Caldwell Counties as well as southern Illinois on channel 23. Murray Electric services the city of Murray and carries the games on channel 15 and 18, while Comcast subscribers will see the Racers on channel 17 in McCracken County and southern Illinois.
Veteran WCBL announcer Jeff Waters will handle play-by-play duties, while Dave Winder, MSU Assistant AD for Media Relations will provide color. The games are produced by Hopkinsville's Source 16.
The Racer TV Network has been a great success since the partnership between MSU Athletics and NewWave Communications was formed in 2008 and has delivered a total of 25 live MSU football and basketball games that fans otherwise wouldn't have been able to see.
“The Racer TV Network is a success story,” MSU Director of Athletics Allen Ward said. “I want to thank Jim Gleason of NewWave Communications and all of our partners for taking a great idea and making it better each and every season. We aired four games that first season and this season will air as many as many as 15 football and basketball games.”
“In 2008, we were excited about the opportunity to get involved with Racer football and basketball and we're happy to be entering our fourth season,” Gleason said. “The fans make it happen. MSU has a loyal fan base and they're the reason the network has grown.”
The broadcast schedule for Murray State men's basketball will be announced later.
