
Brockman, Powell Earn First-Team All-OVC Honors

The Ohio Valley Conference released its 2012 all-conference teams on Tuesday, with Murray State quarterback Casey Brockman and return specialist Walter Powell being selected to the first team. Powell was also named a second-team selection as a wide receiver, and was joined on the second team by offensive lineman Roderick Tomlin. Junior Jaamal Berry was selected to the All-Newcomer team.
Brockman (Murray, Ky.) closed out his career with one of the best seasons in the history of the OVC. He re-wrote the record books by going 359-for-517 for 3,729 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also rushed for seven touchdowns. Brockman leads the OVC in attempts, completions, yards and total offense, setting new single-season records in all categories. He threw for at least 300 yards in eight games this season, including four games over 400 yards.
After coming to MSU as a walk-on, Brockman went on to break every single game, single-season and career record for the Racers. He also set eight OVC records in the process.
On the national scene, Brockman leads the FCS in completions and completions per game (32.64), ranks second in passing yards and total offense per game (345.64), third in completion percentage (69.44) and fourth in points accounted for per game (19.45).
Powell (St. Louis, Mo.) put together the best season by a Racer receiver in school history. The junior set new school records with 94 catches for 1,213 yards, while becoming just the fourth player to catch 10 touchdown passes in a season. His six 100-yard receiving games also set a new record. Powell ranks fourth in the FCS in receptions per game and 10th in receiving yards per game.
Powell's exploits aren't limited to pass catching. He also averaged 26.3 yards per kickoff return, and 15.8 yards per punt return. Powell set an FCS record when her returned a punt 100 yards for a touchdown in the victory over Southeast Missouri. He also returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown in the victory over Tennessee Tech.
His 193.0 all-purpose yards per game led the OVC and ranked second nationally.
Tomlin (Jackson, Tenn.) became the second offensive lineman in as many years to earn second-team honors. Tomlin started all 11 games this season, and the final 37 games of his career. He graded out at 90-percent on the season and blocked for one of the top passing and scoring offenses in the FCS. He helped pave the way for the Racers 284-yard rushing game against Tennessee State.
Berry (Miami, Fla.) got stronger as the season went on and finished the year with 675 yards and seven touchdown on just 95 carries. He recorded a pair of 100-yard rushing games and averaged 7.1 yards per carry. He averaged on 10 yards per carry in each of his final three games. As a receiver, Berry caught 29 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown. He finished the season averaging 105 all-purpose yards per game.
In his first game of the season, Berry rushed for 41 yards on eight carries and caught four passes for 44 yards, including the game-winning 18-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. He had his first 100-yard game against Tennessee Tech when he went for 142 yards on 13 carries. He also rushed for over 100 yards against TSU, going for 163 yards and three touchdowns on just 16 carries.
