Canty Named to OVC Top-10 Preseason Rankings

Junior women's tennis player Ashley Canty was been named to the top-10 Ohio Valley Conference Rankings list, earning the No. 9 spot. The Murray State women's tennis team was also picked No. 5 in the OVC Preseason Rankings.
Canty, a native of Powder Springs, Ga., finished the 2010-11 season 13-19 in singles play and14-18 in doubles action. The 2010-11 All-OVC First Team pick, was 5-3 in OVC singles play and 4-3 in doubles against the league opponents.
The Racers, who finished 2010-11 finished fifth in the OVC at 5-3, were picked by the league coaches to finish in the same spot in the 2011-12 in the same spot. UT Martin was picked to finish first, with Austin Peay picked second, Eastern Kentucky third, Jacksonville State fourth, Morehead State sixth, Southeast Missouri seventh, SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois tied for eighth and Tennessee State ninth.
MSU will open the 2011-12 season at Kenlake Tennis Center in Aurora, Ky., for the second-straight season when they host North Alabama at noon.
The match will be the first of the season for both teams and the first meeting between the Racers and the Lions in the 46-year history of MSU women's tennis. The match is also the first for Racers' head coach Kara Amundson.
North Alabama finished the 2010-11 campaign with a 17-6 overall mark and 4-1 record in the Gulf South Conference. The Racers were 10-13 overall and 5-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference last year.
