Purdue Swings Way to Saturday Victory

Purdue used an eight-run sixth inning to break open a close game and hand Murray State its most lopsided defeat of the season, 22-1, Saturday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Breds (8-7) got on the board in the first inning as Ty Stetson doubled to right center and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Elliott. Travis Isaak drove in Stetson with a hard one-hop groundout to third.
The Boilermakers (10-1) took advantage of a pair of errors to push across an unearned run in the third inning. Eric Charles singled to start the inning. He stole second and went to third on the throwing error by the catcher. Kevin Plawecki's fly ball to right field was dropped, allowing Charles to score from third with the unearned run.
PUR took its first lead of the game in the fourth as a leadoff double and a walk put two runners on ahead of Tyler Spillner's three-run home run down the right-field line.
The Boilers broke the game open in the sixth inning as they scored eight runs on eight hits in the frame. Cameron Perkins and Plawecki each delivered two-run doubles, while four other players drove in a run each.
PUR added two more runs in the seventh on a two-run home run from Plawecki, before plating eight more runs in the eighth.
Cameron Finch (2-1) took the loss after allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits over five innings. Lance Breedlove (2-1) picked up the victory after allowing one run on just two hits over six innings.
The two teams close out the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
