Big Inning Helps Purdue Complete Sweep of Breds

For the second-straight day, #29 Purdue used a big inning to break open a close game and complete a three-game sweep of Murray State with a 13-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Breds (8-8) got on the board in the first inning as Ty Stetson singled to right center and went to second on a Brandon Elliott sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Mike Kozlowski singled to shortstop before Cody Larson delivered an RBI single through the left side. Paul Ritzheimer followed with an RBI single of his own through the left side.
The Boilermakers (11-1) took advantage of a pair of free passes in the second inning as Stephen Talbott delivered a two-run double to left center to score both runners.
PUR took their first lead of the game in the fourth as a walk, single and hit by pitch loaded the bases with one out. Eric Charles plated the run when he beat out the relay throw at first on the attempted double play.
Talbott started a four-run rally in the sixth inning as he delivered a solo home run to left field. After an infield single with two outs, Cameron Perkins delivered an RBI single up the middle, ahead of Barrett Serrato's two-run single through the right side.
Tim Vonder Haar (1-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits over five innings. Calvin Gunter (2-0) earned the victory after allowing two runs on five hits and three strikeouts over five innings.
Kozlowski and Ritzheimer each collected two hits, while Elliott drew three walks.
The Breds return to the diamond Wednesday afternoon as they travel to face #22 Kentucky. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
