Larson Single Completes Comeback in 6-4 Victory Over Southern Miss

Murray State senior Cody Larson delivered an RBI single to right field to cap off a four-run seventh inning to give the Breds a 6-4 victory over Southern Miss in the rubber game of a three-game series Sunday afternoon at Pete Taylor Park.
The rally started with Jacob Rhodes and Corey Bays drawing back-to-back pinch hit walks with one out. Paul Ritzheimer greeted the new pitcher with a two-run double down the left field line. With two outs, Travis Isaak singled to center to score Ritzheimer. Mike Kozlowski singled to second base before Larson plated the game-winning run with the single to right.
The Breds (10-10) got on the board in the third inning as Ritzheimer doubled to left field and scored on a Ty Stetson single up the middle.
The Golden Eagles (11-9) pushed across three runs in the third inning as a pair of singles and a hit by pitch loaded the bases. A second wild pitch scored one run, before a groundout off the bat of Mason Robbins scored another run. Ashley Graeter followed by delivering an RBI single to center field.
USM added to its lead in the fifth as Graeter and Ryan Ellis delivered back-to-back singles, before Travis Creel plated Graeter with a single through the left side.
MSU added an insurance run in the ninth as Stetson walked with one out and went to second on an Isaak single to center. Kozlowski followed with a run-scoring single through the left side.
Will Handlin (3-0) earned the victory in relief after allowing just one run on six hits and two strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Cameron Giannini (1-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in just two-thirds of an inning.
Isaak led the offense by going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Stetson, Kozlowski and Ritzheimer each added two hits.
The Breds return to action Tuesday afternoon as they play host to Mid-Continent. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Reagan Field.
