Racer Rifle Freshmen Shoot Well At USA Junior Olympic Nationals
4/19/2012 9:55:00 PM | Rifle
The Murray State rifle program was represented in fine fashion over the weekend at the USA Junior Olympics Nationals in Colorado Springs, Colo.
A pair of Racer freshmen, Kelsey Emme (Peidmont, S.D.) and Marisca Mozeleski (Vashon, Wash.) was right in the middle of the competition at the United States Olympic Training Center.
When the shots were tallied, Emme turned in a second place showing in air rifle and a fifth place finish in smallbore, while Mozeleski placed 26th in smallbore.
“This week was my first open finals and it was a little nerve racking,” Emme said. “I've been working hard trying to prepare for finals at this level, and it's a good feeling when the work pays off.”
“I'm so glad that I went and shot well,” Mozeleski said. “Even though I didn't make the top ten, the whole experience was very valuable and I look forward to more matches this summer.
With her second place finish, Emme won a place on the USA Shooting Junior Development Team.
“I can't say enough about the way Kelsey has trained and prepared for this match,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. “Her first day was a little down, but one of the reasons we wanted her at Murray State is because she is such a competitor and never gives up. Marisca has been working hard since the day she got here. It's really good to see it pay off and reward her.”
MSU signee Kaitlyn Wilson (Boswell, pa.) had a good smallbore day with a score of 570.
