Murray State University Athletics has announced the completion of auditions for new public address announcers for Racer football and men's and women's basketball.
Â
Richard Trey Morris of Murray, Ky., will assume public address responsibilities in the CFSB Center for both MSU basketball teams while Logan Stout of Huntingdon, Tenn., will become the new announcer at Stewart Stadium for Racer Football.
Â
"We began this process thinking we might split the responsibilities as we moved forward," stated MSU associate athletic director Paul Bubb. "In the end, we had two strong candidates and felt this was the best combination we could have for presenting these sports to our fans at home games."
Â
Candidates for the announcing positions were asked to submit a letter of application and a recorded demo tape, which included game announcements as well as the introduction of a game starting line-up. After review of all submitted materials, Morris and Stout were invited to campus for a live audition using written scripts as well as being asked to prepare their own versions of action calls.
Â
"Our committee was impressed with both candidates and decided to split the responsibilities as we had discussed," Bubb said. "Mr. Morris and Mr. Stout were both open to the split responsibilities and it actually gives us a back-up for each sport, should it be needed."
Â
Morris has been involved with Racer Athletics in the past, assisting as an auctioneer at the Sneakers & Scholarships Benefit Auction. He was the 2012 Kentucky State Champion Auctioneer and recently qualified to compete in the International Auction Championship in 2014. He has also served as announcer for the Murray State Racer Roundup Rodeo and the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Morris will get his first opportunity behind the microphone at the 2013 Racer Fan Jam for men's and women's basketball in late October.
Â
Stout, a Murray State University alumnus, works at MSU as the transfer center coordinator. Stout has worked as a radio broadcaster and previously served as public address announcer at Racer softball. He has done baseball radio play-by-play in the KIT League (Now the Ohio Valley League), a college baseball summer league. Stout will begin his public address responsibilities with Racer football when MSU hosts Campbellsville University on Sept. 7.
