11th Murray State Invitational Starts Monday

The 11th annual Murray State Invitational hosted by the Racer men's golf team is Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 22-23) at the Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky.
An 8:30 a.m. shotgun start is slated for both days including Monday's 36 holes with Tuesday bringing the 18-hole finish.
A field of the 12 schools will tee it up on the Miller course that will play to a par of 71 and 6,601 yards.

Five Ohio Valley Conference schools are in the event as the Racers will be joined by Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, UT Martin and Tennessee State. Non-conference teams competing include Alabama State, Christian Brothers, John A. Logan, Missouri Baptist, Northern Kentucky and Wright State.
After winning the first eight MSU Invitational titles, the Racers are eager to get back on top after finishing third in 2012 and fourth in 2013. The Racers last won the championship in 2011 when they scored a five-shot win.

A Murray State player has won the medalist title in four of the last five events including Preston French in 2013. He scored a three-shot win on rounds of 69-68-70-206. MSU's other medalist wins came from Nick Newcomb (2009), William Hunt (2010) and Patrick Newcomb (2011).

The team scoring record of 832 was in 2005 when the Racers had a six-shot win over Western Illinois. The single-round record is 272 by the Racers in 2008. The individual tournament scoring mark is 197 by Scott Stallings of Tennessee Tech in 2005. The record low score for a Murray State player is 205 by Patrick Newcomb in 2011.
The Racers will field a Navy and Gold teams.
