Groves Inks Nine to 2015 Roster

Murray State women's soccer head coach Jeremy Groves announced the addition of forward/outside midfielder Caroline Ashton, forward Cori Cain, goal keeper Alex Steigerwald, forward/midfielder Kinsleigh Robb, defender Lauren Nosal, defender Bailey Lankster, defender/midfielder Rachel Gootee, forward/marking back Katie Brooks, and forward/attacking midfielder Christin Poole for the 2015 season. The 2014 Racers went 11-9 overall and 7-3 in conference play, while making it to the OVC Tournament for the first time since 2011.
Caroline Ashton, a forward/outside midfielder from Fishers, Indiana, comes to Murray State after playing for both Guerin Catholic High School and Club FCPride. During her 2013 club season, her team was the Indiana Soccer League Champions, while she was also the U16 leading scorer. During her 2014 campaign, the team was MRL Champions, US Club National Champions, and Crossroads of America Showcase Champions, while she was also the U17 leading scorer. As a Golden Eagle, she was a team captain and part of the MaxPreps Top 10. She was a four-year varsity player and was the third leading scorer with eight goals and six assists in the outside midfielder position. Max-Preps named her player of the game against nationally ranked opponents and she was also named to the Hamilton County Reporter All-County second team, Indiana Coaches All-District team, and was a two-time Indiana Coaches All-Academic Team.

"Caroline is a forward with tons of speed and ability to go by defenders. Caroline has played for one of the top clubs in Indianapolis (FC Pride) and last summer won the US Soccer National Champion. I believe that she will be a top player here at Murray State."
Cori Cain, a forward from Noblesville,Indiana, will become an addition to the MSU team after playing for both Noblesville High School and club FC Pride. During her season with the FC Pride they became U.S Soccer National Champions. When playing for the Millers, her team was in the Top 10 state rankings in 2013, while she was named first team Academic All-State. During her senior season, the team was ranked in the top five in state rankings, and Top 25 in national rankings. She was named to the Indiana Coaches All-State team, was a ISCA Top Team Player, and was named to the Fall All-American list by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

"Another powerful forward with speed, she's a natural goal scorer with the ability to hold the ball up. Like Caroline, Cori played for FC Pride who last summer won the US Soccer National Championship. We are really excited to have Cori here at Murray State."
Alex Steigerwald, a goalkeeper from West Chester, Ohio, will join the Racers after playing two seasons with the Lakota East High School Thunderhawks. She was named second team All-Conference after both the 2013 and 2014 season, while also being a team captain during the 2014 season.

"A goalkeeper who is going to add depth and push Shelby for playing time this year, Alex is a very good shot stopper who communicates well with her back four. We are really looking forward to getting Alex here at Murray State."
Kinsleigh Robb, a forward/midfielder from Norman, Oklahoma, will become a Racer after spending four seasons on varsity at Norman High School. In the three of her four seasons the team went to tournament play, while two of those three years they made it to the semi-finals. During her sophomore year she was named Defensive Player of the Year for her efforts to the team. In 2014, she scored the winning goal that pushed the Tigers into the playoff bracket. During her junior season, she scored nine goals, 18 assists, and five penalty kicks.

Lauren Nosal, a defender from St. Peters, Missouri, will join the 2015 team after spending two seasons at Francis Howell Central and four seasons with a club team. During her two seasons as a Spartan, the team was second in District both years. She received the All-Academic team and 110% effort award both seasons, while she was all named to the second team All-Conference after she had two goals and four shut-outs. During her years playing club soccer, she had 31 shut-outs and was ranked second in the state of Missouri. Her club team was Rush Tournament Champions and Missouri State quarter finalists two years and was also the Memphis Adidas Wolf Classic Champions.

"Nosal is a very smart defender that will add depth to our improving back four. Lauren has the ability to step in and play right away. Lauren reads the game extremely well. We picked Lauren up from one of our ID Camps. We are looking forward to August when we can start working with Lauren."
Bailey Lankster, a defender from Lexington, Kentucky, comes to Murray State after playing three seasons for Tates Creek High School. During her three seasons the team became Fayette County Soccer Spectacular Champions, and region champions twice. The team became State Champions during her first season, along with becoming a state semifinalist her second season. She was named to the Fayette County Spectacular All-Tournament team, Lady Knights Challenge Cup All-Tournament Team, and the Lexington Herald Leader All-City Team.

"Another smart defender who reads the game extremely well. Bailey, I believe can play in different positions along the back line. A technically sound player who is very reliable on the ball. We are very happy Bailey Has chosen Murray State to continue her development."
Rachel Gootee, a defender/midfielder from Madisonville,Kentucky, joins the team after playing four seasons at Madisonville North Hopkins High School. Her freshman season, she started all but one game and earned the most improved award along with the 110% Award and was named Defender of the Year during the 2012 and 2013 season. She started all games in 2012, and was named a member of a defensive line that was top five in KHSAA in allowed per game percentage. After having 15 goals on the year, including the only goal scored in the Sweet 16 for the Lady Maroons, she was named to the All-District team, All-Region Tournament team, and All-Region second Team. During her senior season, she was named captain and had nine goals on the year, while having the only goal in the first round of the regional tournament. She was named to the All-District team, All-District Academic team, All-Region first team, All-State Honorable Mention, and Midfield of the Year.

Katie Brooks, a forward/marking back from Madisonville, Kentucky, comes to the Racer family after playing three seasons for Madisonville North Hopkins High School. The team was District and Regional Champions, while also advancing to the Sweet 16 all three season. During her senior season the team advanced to the Elite Eight. She earned the Lady Maroons Most Improved Player in her first two season with the team, while earning an All-Region Tournament team award her second season. During her senior campaign she scored 22 goals and dished out eight assists and earned a spot on the All-District team, first team All-Region, All-State honorable mention, and the Lady Maroons Offensive Award.

Christin Poole, a forward/attacking midfielder from Henderson,Kentucky, joins the team after spending four seasons at Henderson County High School. All four seasons her team was District Champions, along with being a Region 2 runner-up her senior season. She was named All-District and Academic All-State all four years, and All-Region first team three out of the four years. She was named Top Offensive Player her freshman season after scoring 16 goals along with 18 assists. During her sophomore season, she scored 17 goals and dished out 17 assists to earn the Most Valuable Player award. She was named Most Valuable Player and All-State Honorable Mention during her junior campaign when she scored 25 goals along with having 20 assists. During her last season with the Colonels, she broke the all-time leading goals scored record with 28 goals to go along with 16 assists to earn another Most Valuable Player honor.
