Racers Post Good Performances At OVC Indoors

The Murray State women's team came home with a sixth place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Charleston, Illinois.

Tamdra Lawrence and Norma Abdur-Rafia were the top scorers for the Racers when they combined for four top-5 finishes in the event.

In the always demanding Indoor Pentathlon, MSU's Jabreuna Brimlett placed second, while teammate Aubrey Main placed fourth. Brimlett won the hurdles and the shot put events and she was second in the long jump. Main won the 800 meter run. Brimlett's score of 3,328 points was fourth all-time at Murray State. Main's score of 3,070 was seventh all-time.

The Racers brought home a sixth place finish with 56.5 points over the two days of competition.

"We had some really great performances this weekend," said MSU coach Jenny Swieton. "The conference is getting better every year and everyone knew they had to give everything they had this weekend. In the word of Theodore Roosevelt they "dared greatly", and that is all we can ask. Our team is relatively young and this was a great stepping-stone towards our goals for the future. I am very proud of everyone."

Sprints
In the 60 meter run, Tamdra Lawrence was second at 7.50 seconds, just an eyelash behind winner Amber Hughes of TSU at 7.44. Her time was second all-time at Murray State.

In the 60 meter hurdles, Jabreuna Brimlett was fifth with a time of 8.61 seconds, while Taylor McCammon was seventh at 8.75.

MSU had a three-four finish in the 200 meter final as Lawrence placed third at 24.42 second and Abdur-Rafia was fourth at 24.62.

Middle Distance
Norma Abdur-Rafia placed third in the 400 meter run with a time of 56.94, while Jocelyn Payne was eighth at 59.77. Abdur-Rafia's time was sixth all-time at MSU.

MSU's Meagan Smith came home with a 10th place finish in the 5000 meter final with a time of 17:45. Rebekah Priddy placed 14th at 18:12 and Caroline Grogan was 17th at 18:20. Smith's time was sixth all-time at MSU.

Rebekah Priddy placed 12th in the mile run with a time of 5:14. Ida Mutai was 12th at 5:23.

MSU's Yasmine Homa placed fifth in the pole vault with a jump of 10 feet-9.5 inches. Chleo LeGrand was seventh at the same height. Homa's jump was fifth at MSU.

Jewell Wagner was 10th in the shot put with a throw of 41-feet 11.25 inches. She placed 13th in the weight throw at 49 feet-9.75 inches. Her shot put was eighth all-time at MSU and her weight throw was sixth.

Hope Tewes was 10th in the high jump with an effort of five feet.

The MSU team of Tia Weston, Anna Curlin, Hilary McAdam and Ida Mutai placed ninth in the distance medley relay with a time of 13:09.

In the 4x400 meter replay, the Racers' team of DiMyia Thornton, Norma Abdur-Rafia, Hilary McAdam and Jocelyn payne placed fifth with a time of 3:59.
