Racer Soccer Adds Talented Class Of 2017

Murray State women's soccer coach Jeremy Groves announced the signing of eight student-athletes that will join the Racers this fall as freshmen.
The new Racers include Annamarie Arino (Powder Springs, Ga.), Symone Cooper (Loganville, Ga.), Isabell "Izzy" Heckman (Powder Springs, Ga.), Rebecca Kubin (Lake Zurich, Ill.), Allyson McAtamney (Noblesville, Ind.), Reagan Pittenger (Murray, Ky.), Ann Taylor (Murray, Ky.), Kayla Travis (Calvert City, Ky.).

"We're very pleased with this class of 2017 for Racer Soccer," Murray State head coach Jeremy Groves said. "We feel that we addressed our needs and expect this class to impact our program quickly when we go into the fall season."

The new Racers include Annamarie Arino (Powder Springs, Ga.), Symone Cooper (Loganville, Ga.), Isabell "Izzy" Heckman (Powder Springs, Ga.), Rebecca Kubin (Lake Zurich, Ill.), Allyson McAtamney (Noblesville, Ind.), Reagan Pittenger (Murray, Ky.), Ann Taylor (Murray, Ky.), Kayla Travis (Calvert City, Ky.).

| Annamarie Arino – 5-5 – Midfielder – Powder Springs, Ga. - Hillgrove HS Out of Hillgrove High School, Arino was a four-year varsity starter and her team qualified for the Georgia State Tournament in four-straight seasons. Her team advanced to the Georgia Elite-8 in 2015. She led the team in game winning goals as a freshman.  Played club soccer for 11 years at Southern Soccer Academy and the Chelsea sponsored USA flagship club. She played on teams that qualified for the Southern Region Premier League Tournament from 2012-16 and she won three championships. She was selected to play in the Bethesda Thanksgiving Showcase. Coach Groves on Annamarie Arino: "Annamarie is a tenacious midfielder who has a great motor and loves the fight. She is comfortable getting the ball off defenders and she will help us build from the back more efficiently. Annamarie is going to add some much needed depth in our midfield."  |

| Symone Cooper – 6-1 - Loganville, Ga. – Grayson HS Out of Grayson high school, Cooper was part of the Georgia Class 6A State champion runner up team in 2014 and state champion in 2015.  She played club soccer with Chiefs Futbol Club of Atlanta. She participated in R3PL from 2012-2016 and was the co-captain of Chiefs FC in 2016 and 2017.  Coach Groves on Symone Cooper: "Symone is a 6'1 player that attacks. She is very good technically and very athletic. Symone is going to add another dimension to our team and will make us less predictable in our play. We are looking for Symone to come in and compete to play straight away."  |

| Isabell "Izzy" Heckman – 5-4 - Powder Springs, Ga. - Harrison HS Heckman joins the Racers from Harrison High School where she was a varsity starter for four years and team captain. Her team won the 2014 Georgia High School Class-6A State championship and was the No. 1 ranked team in the nation in 2015.  Playing for Southern Soccer Academy, Heckman participated in the Southern Premier League 2015-2017 and played RPL and SPL since 2012. She was a national team camp participant in 2014.  Coach Groves on Izzy Heckman: "Izzy was our first commitment for this class. She is an extremely versatile player that can play in a multitude of positions and is a very good technical player. We're extremely excited to have Izzy join our program and are expecting great things from her."  |

| Rebecca Kubin – 5-3 - Lake Zurich, Ill. – Lake Zurich HS Playing at Lake Zurich High School, Kubin played on teams that won an Illinois Class-3A regional title in 2015. She was named Illinois All-Sectional in 2016 and was a two-time All-Conference pick. She was named All-Area (2016) and Rookie of the Year (2015). She scored 11 goals and had 10 assists in her senior season of 2016.  Kubin played for the Libertyville FC1974 club team where they were Illinois State Cup runner-up in 2013 and semifinalists in 2014.  Coach Groves on Rebecca Kubin: "Rebecca is a fast forward who is very dynamic and has an eye for goal. Rebecca is going to add even more depth to our strong forward line. We are very excited that Rebecca has decided to become a Racer."  |

| Allyson McAtamney – 5-5 – Midfielder – Noblesville, Ind. – Westfield HS Allyson McAtamney comes from a Westfield High School program that won the Indiana State championship in 2013 and 2015. She participated in the USYSA regionals in 2013 and 2015 and USA Club nationals in 2013.  Coach Groves on Allyson McAtamney: "Allyson is a gifted midfielder who can play in multiple places. Allyson is coming off a serious injury and is recovering well. We are expecting her to come in and add depth in the midfield next year." |

| Reagan Pittenger – 5-3 – Midfielder/Forward – Murray, Ky. – Calloway County HS Pittenger comes from a Calloway County High School program where she earned Kentucky All Region 2nd Team honors as a sophomore and junior in 2014 and 2015. She made All-Region 1st Team as a senior in 2016. She is the CCHS single-season goal leader, a record she set in 2016  Coach Groves on Reagan Pittenger: "Reagan is another local product that we feel is a fast player that can play wide. I believe she can play either on attack or on defense. Reagan is very tenacious and tough and we're very glad that she has chosen to become a Racer."  |

| Ann Taylor – 5-7 - Defender – Murray, Ky. – Murray HS A multi-sport star at Murray High School, Ann Taylor joins the Racers after a successful prep career in soccer and track & field.  She was a four-year varsity letterman and made 85-straight starts and assisted in 27 shutouts at MHS. Her teams at Murray was Kentucky State runner-up in 2016 and made the semifinals in 2015 and Kentucky All-Elite 8 in 2014.  She played club soccer from 2014-16 for Panathinaiko.  On the track, Taylor was part of MHS teams that was Kentucky State runner-up in 2015 and Kentucky State champions in 2016. She was named the Kentucky 2016 Class-A Female Student Athlete of the Year.  Coach Groves on Ann Taylor: "Ann is a local player who we identified through our ID camp. She's a very tough and athletic defender and she'll add depth to our already athletic back four. We are really excited that Ann has chosen to become a Racer."  |

| Kayla Travis – 5-4 – Midfielder/Forward - Calvert City, Ky. – Marshall County HS Out of Marshall County High School, Travis was a Kentucky All-State selection in three seasons (2014-16). Travis was named Marshall MVP in 2015 and 2016 and finished her prep career with 70 goals and 38 assists. Coach Groves on Kayla Travis: "Kayla is a very attack-minded player who has a keen eye for goal. She will add depth to our attacking options. We're really excited to keep Kayla close to home and are expecting big things from her in her Murray State Career."  |
