The Murray State softball team split its second day at the 2023 Wildcat Invitational at Poly Wells Field in Abilene, Texas Saturday. The Racers cruised past A&M Corpus Christi in game one, 5-1, but despite a seven-run rally fell to host Abilene Christian, 13-12, in eight innings.

The Murray State softball team split its second day at the 2023 Wildcat Invitational at Poly Wells Field in Abilene, Texas Saturday. The Racers cruised past A&M Corpus Christi in game one, 5-1, but despite a seven-run rally fell to host Abilene Christian, 13-12, in eight innings.

- Murray State led the Islanders in game one, 2-1, headed to the bottom of the sixth. In that inning, the Racers reeled off three insurance runs to secure the 5-1 win.
- Adison Hicks, Erin Lackey and Lindsey Carroll each had two hits in the game, while Lackey also drove in two runs on a single in the first. Carroll and Jordan Childress each had RBI-singles in the contest, while Riley Jestadt had an RBI triple.
- Bre Haislip started the game for Murray State and allowed one run over 3.0 innings with four hits, two strikeouts and three walks. However, it was Hannah James that earned the win after she allowed no runs on no hits over the final four innings while striking out 10 of 13 batters.
- In game two, the Racers gave up 12 runs in the first four innings and while they did score five of their own, they still trailed 12-5 headed into the sixth. In the top of the sixth, however, Murray State exploded for seven runs on six hits including RBI doubles from Lackey and Carroll.
- Gracie Osbron became the 14th Racer in program history to have four or more hits in one game Saturday. She finished the day at 4-for-4 with five RBIs, two runs and a hit by pitch.
- Lackey followed Osbron with three hits, while Lily Fischer tallied two. Lackey also had two RBIS in the game, as did Bailey Broemmer and Jestadt.
- James took the hard-luck loss for the Racers as she allowed one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk over the final 2.1 innings.
The Racers will close out play in the 2023 Wildcat Invitational Sunday when they take on Abilene at 10 a.m.
