Fast Friday – Racers Take Four of Top-5 Spots at SIU Meet

The Murray State Cross Country Squads Raced Friday evening in Carbondale, Ill.
The Murray State Women's Cross Country team came home with a rare win in which they had three of the top five spots at the Oscar Moore Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois in Carbondale.
Running on a warm Friday night, Murray State's Molly Robertson, Jocelyn Host and Liz Smith come home with first, second and third place, while Ruth Kimutai placed fifth.
"Our goal was to have the top-4 finishers closer than our season opener and they did an amazing job working together throughout the race and challenging each other at the end," said Coach Jordan Johnston. "Molly Robertson and Jocelyn Host ended up running eighth and nine on the MSU all-time list, so that's exciting to have them make their way onto the list so early in the season. Everyone had designated pace groups to follow and I think that helped some of the younger runners with their confidence. Hallie had a big PR and I am so proud of her for that. She's been working so hard for the last year and I know there's even more room for growth."
Robertson, who placed second at the SEMO meet in late August, her first in her freshman season, took first at SIU with a time of 22:10.83 in the 6K distance.
The Racers also placed first in the event ahead of Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois and SIUE.
The next challenge for the Racers is the Louisville Classic at Tom Sawyer Park (Oct. 4).
