Murray State baseball took down Austin Peay 12-6 in comeback fashion
Murray State baseball took down longtime rival Austin Peay 12-6 on Tuesday evening at Raymond Hand Park in Clarksville, Tennessee. The Racers offense was largely fueled by the home run, blasting four in the contest to account for nine runs.
Â
Logan Bland led MSU with two home runs to go with four RBIs while Brennan McCullough and Drew Vogel each joined the home run party with a two-run shot and a three-run blast, respectively. McCullough would go 3-for-4 at the plate while adding a double on top of his home run.
Â
The heart of the Racers order was pivotal in the matchup as the two through five hitters combined for eight RBIs.
Â
After trailing for much of the night, the Racers offense would explode in the ninth inning with Vogel and Bland's blast each coming in the final frame. Dustin Mercer and Carson Garner would push the run-scoring higher with each smacking an RBI double to round out the runs for MSU at 12.
Â
On the mound, the Racers pitched mostly by the committee throughout the bout as Allen Roulette impressed in relief, tossing 2.2 innings and allowing no runs while striking out a pair to pick up the win. Matt Boynton, Nathan Holler, and Ben Krizen all tossed at least an inning while limiting the Governors offense in the comeback.
Â
The Racers continue their road swing with a road trip to Valparaiso this weekend to continue Missouri Valley Conference play.
